What Happens During a Crown Preparation Appointment?
Your Northridge dentist will start by providing dental
sedation if necessary. Then, they’ll numb the tooth to prevent discomfort during the
procedure.
Dr. Omid Barkhordar will check the tooth for decay and
remove it. He’ll then prepare the tooth for a crown, reducing the circumference and height of the
tooth. Polishing the margins will ensure a great fit and less chance of microleakage (which can lead
to decay under the crown).
Once the tooth is prepared, Dr. Omid and his team will take an impression of the tooth. Our CAD/CAM
machine will fabricate a crown using the impression. (In some cases, we may need to send the
impression to a dental lab, in which case, we’ll provide a temporary crown until your new crown is
ready).
After fabricating the crown, we’ll clean the tooth and bond or cement the crown to the tooth.
