Understanding the Types of Periodontal Treatment
Our experienced dental team will collaborate with you to develop a personalized treatment plan
tailored to your needs. Periodontal treatment generally falls into two categories: non-surgical and
surgical.
Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatment
Non-surgical treatment is typically the initial approach in combating gum disease. This may involve
a deep teeth cleaning, also known as root scaling,
to remove plaque and tartar below the gumline. Antibiotics, either applied topically or taken
internally, may also be prescribed.
Surgical Periodontal Treatment
In cases of significant gum loss and exposed tooth roots, surgical treatment may be necessary. One
option is soft tissue grafting, where tissue, often
obtained from the roof of the mouth, is attached to the area requiring additional gum tissue.
Prior to recommending a treatment plan, we will conduct a comprehensive examination and utilize
X-rays to evaluate the condition of your teeth, gums, and bone structure.
