What Is Root Canal Therapy in Northridge?
A root canal is an ideal way to save a natural tooth that’s been severely damaged. Damage can be
caused by trauma (like getting hit in the face) or decay that’s reached the pulp (nerve). When the
pulp is damaged, it becomes irritated and inflamed, causing pain. Eventually, the pulp will die. In
some cases, the only option is to extract the dead
tooth. However, we can treat the tooth by removing the dead tissue thanks to dental innovations.
Root canal therapy in Northridge is one of the best ways to prevent tooth loss.
What Happens During a Root Canal Treatment Appointment?
Your Northridge dentist, Dr. Omid Barkhordar, will start by
numbing the tooth (after you’ve received dental
sedation if necessary). Once you’re comfortable, they’ll place a rubber dam to isolate the
tooth before opening the tooth using a laser or dental handpiece.
Opening the tooth gives them access to the pulp tissue and canals. They’ll clean the canals of the
infected or dead tissue using fine brushes. Then, they’ll disinfect the tooth and fill the canals
with a substance called gutta-percha. Finally, they’ll place a temporary filling in the tooth, which
you’ll have until you get a dental crown to cover the
tooth. Throughout the process, your dental team will take dental X-rays to double-check for hidden canals and
ensure the canals are thoroughly clean and there’s no root perforation.
